Alternatively characterized as a Servile Dictatorship, a Banana Republic is a term that refers to a politically unstable nation dependent upon limited agricultural resources as a means of ensuring market stability that is ruled by a concentrated minority of self-elected, affluent, and blatantly corrupt politico-economic cliques (an inclusive group of individuals sharing a measure of commonality in terms of interests, views, purposes, patterns of behavior, or ethnicity).
