Possessing more than 3 million core processors, China’s Tianhe-2 is recognized as the world’s most prolific supercomputer in terms of capability. In terms of performance its level of proficiency is unrivaled, as evidenced by the system’s ability to execute more than 30 quadrillion calculations per second. The Titan Supercomputer at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, possessing the capability of executing 17.59 quadrillion calculations per second, is now widely regarded as the world’s second most powerful computing system of its kind. It is believed that the Tianhe-2 Supercomputer exists as the technological precursor to Exascale systems — machines 30 times more powerful than China’s latest achievement.
